The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is leaving no stone unturned as they search for a replacement for Finidi George.
The former Enyimba manager opted to walk away from his role as Nigeria’s coach after the disappointing results recorded in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.

In a bid to salvage the faltering qualification campaign, reports have emerged that the NFF is considering appointing one of the coaches who participated in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024 tournament.

According to a report from media outlet OwnGoalNigeria, the football federation has made contact with the representative of Georgia coach, Willy Sagnol.
The 47-year-old qualified Georgia for their first-ever tournament with a playoff victory over Greece.
The former French defender also ensured the Crusaders left an indelible mark on the showpiece, as they defeated Portugal to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
The European nation eventually saw their fairytale come to an end with a defeat against Spain in the round of 16.
The report also concludes by highlighting that the former Bayern Munich defender had previously applied for the vacant Super Eagles coaching role.

NFF agrees deal with high-profile coach for Nigeria

The Nigerian team is without a permanent manager for the second time in 2024 following Finidi’s sudden departure.
However, recent reports have suggested that an announcement of the next manager could be well on the horizon, with contacts reported to have already been initiated with a manager whose profile fits the Super Eagles.
