Nasreddine Nabi Confirms AS FAR Exit Ahead of Kaizer Chiefs Move

  • Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed he will leave Morrocan side, AS FAR Rabat, after losing the Throne Cup final on Monday, July 1
  • The former Young Africans coach is set to be announced as Kaizer Chiefs coach in the coming days after much speculation
  • Amakhosi are in need of a coach who can lead the club back to its glory days after many years of mediocrity in the local league

Nasreddine Nabi’s season with AS FAR Rabat ended in heartbreak after they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Moroccan Throne Cup final.

Nabi’s team was beaten by league champions, Raja Casablanca, who secured the trophy weeks after beating AS FAR to the league title by a point.

The Tunisian will now be on his way to take his new role at Kaizer Chiefs and has confirmed he will leave the Morrocan side.

Kaizer Chiefs recently released a statement saying they will announce a new coach soon. Many believe Nabi will be announced as coach this week.

Assistant coach, Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach, Ilyes Mzoughi, are in South Africa, meaning an announcement is imminent, according to Far Post.

Nabi confirms AS FAR exit

The former Young Africans coach apologised to fans for a season that promised so much but ended in heartbreak.

“I want to apologise to the fans of ASFAR for failing in a short space of time,” he said via iDiski Times. “We were not able to make them happy by coming second. This is football.

“It was a very strong season for the players. I was asking a lot from them, and perhaps they were tired.”

He said he will leave his role after the defeat to Raja.

“It is better for another coach to come with new ideas.”

Nabi is seen as the man who will take the Glamour Boys back on top after nearly a decade of underachievement. The club finished 10th in the league last season, 37 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns.

Amakhosi have hired and fired many coaches in the last decade, and it seems they are ready for another reset. Nabi has an impressive resume and will be keen to make an immediate impact at Naturena.

Kaizer Chiefs fans warned

Sports Brief earlier reported on Sergio Dos Santos warning Kaizer Chiefs fans about high expectations with a new head coach.

The former boss of the Soweto giants said the new coach will need time to settle and build a team that can challenge for trophies.
