Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has turned his attention to the upcoming quarter-final clash against France at the European Champions on Friday, July 5, 2024.

The 2016 champions defeated Slovenia on penalties to set up a blockbuster clash with the 2018 World Cup winners in the last eight of the competition.

Ronaldo, who missed a penalty in extra-time before converting in the shootouts, described the game against Les Blues as a ‘war’.

“We are going to have a difficult game against France and we are going to war. It was a plus of energy and I will always do my best with this shirt,” he said in a post-match interview, as quoted by Cabine Sport.

“I’m going to do this my whole life. I’ve never been afraid to face things head on and giving up is something you’ll never hear from me,” he added.

Ronaldo is yet to score his first goal at the tournament in Germany despite holding the record as the player with the most goals in the history of the competition.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is making his final appearance at the Euros and will be hoping to crown it with success.

Meanwhile, their opponents for Friday’s quarter-final defeated Belgium 1-0 in the earlier game on Monday, July 1, 2024. Second-half substitute Randal Kolo-Muani forced Jan Vertonghen into scoring an own goal with five minutes remaining, as reported by Sky Sports.

Ronaldo relieved after Portugal beat Slovenia

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cristiano Ronaldo reacted to Portugal’s resilient display against Slovenia to reach the quarter-finals of the European Championship after a penalty shootout victory.

The Al-Nassr star missed the chance to win the game for the Selacaos in extra-time after his spot-kick was saved by Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

However, the legendary forward made up for his miss after converting during the shootouts as Portugal defeated their Round of 16 opponents 3-0 on penalties, courtesy of a heroic display by goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
