Why Did Nasreddine Nabi Choose Kaizer Chiefs? Tunisian Coach Explains

  • Nasreddine Nabi will be announced as Kaizer Chiefs in the coming days and will embark on the challenging task of taking the club back to the top
  • The Tunisian will coach his final AS FAR Rabat match tonight before joining his backroom staff in South Africa
  • The former Young Africans coach recently discussed why he chose to join the Glamour Boys over other clubs on the continent

Nasreddine Nabi is expected to be named as Kaizer Chiefs coach in the coming days after completing his commitments with AS FAR Rabat.

The Tunisian was the favourite to take over Naturena last year, but talks broke down, and Molefi Ntseki was hired instead.

They endured a difficult season, finishing 10th, their worst position in the PSL era.

Nabi joined AS FAR ahead of the 2023/24 season and guided them to second in the Morrocan league behind invincible champions, Raja Casablanca. His team dominated the league and lost the title by a point.

Before joining the Morrocan side, Nabi enjoyed a hugely successful spell with Tanzanian giants, Young Africans.

Amakhosi fans are expecting an instant impact from Nabi and his elite coaching staff after going nine years without a trophy.

Why did Nabi go with Kaizer Chiefs?

After building a reputation as one of the best coaches on the African continent, Nabi is wanted by many clubs. However, something drew him to Glamour Boys.

According to GOAL’s Austin Ditlhobololo, Nabi chose Chiefs because of their stature and the desire to experience a different culture.

“I chose the Kaizer Chiefs offer because it is an honour for me to supervise a team of Kaizer’s value. And at the same time, as a Tunisian and an Arab, I have this responsibility and this opportunity, I can learn about a different culture, football and socially, which is a gain I always aspire to, without giving myself too much value.”

Some of Nabi’s backroom staff have arrived in South Africa, and fans are waiting for the big announcement, which, as Kaizer Chiefs said in a statement over the weekend, is expected soon.

Kaizer Chiefs fans warned

Sports Brief earlier reported on Sergio Dos Santos warning Kaizer Chiefs fans about expectations with a new coach.

The former Amakhosi tactician said the new coach will need time to settle at the club and construct a competitive team.
