According to statistics firm Squawka, Kante’s run of 12 matches without defeat at the European championship keeps him at the summit of the unbeaten record.

The Saudi-based midfielder has won seven games and drawn five in 12 Euro games for the French national team.

Kante has been France’s key player at the tournament, winning back-to-back Man of the Match awards before delivering the decisive assist against the Red Devils.

France will face the winner of the match between 2016 champions Portugal and Slovenia in the quarter-final of the competition ongoing in Germany, as reported by UEFA.

France reach Euro quarter-final after Belgium win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Jan Vertonghen’s late own goal took France into the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Monday as they edged Belgium 1-0 in a tense tie in Duesseldorf.

France had dominated the last-16 clash but their profligate finishing looked set to force extra time until they finally found a way through with five minutes left.

Substitute Randal Kolo Muani collected the ball inside the Belgian penalty area and hit a shot that was going wide until a deflection off the unfortunate Vertonghen took it past goalkeeper Koen Casteels.
