Despite taking the most shots on goal during the championship, Ronaldo had failed to score in his previous three group-stage games and was expected to end his goal-scoring drought against the lowly-ranked Slovenia.
Throughout regulation time, Ronaldo’s efforts were thwarted by Slovenia’s goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, pushing the game into extra time.

However, the usually reliable CR7 saw his effort saved by the Atletico Madrid shot-stopper, who dived correctly to block Ronaldo’s shot.
The missed opportunity left Ronaldo visibly distraught, and he appeared to be on the verge of tears following the incident.
