After facing heavy criticism for failing to replicate his club form for the national team in Brazil’s opening game against Costa Rica, Vinicius silenced his detractors with a stellar display, ESPN reports.

He registered his first goal involvement at the tournament by finishing off a smooth team move five minutes past the half-hour mark.

The Real Madrid star fortuitously added a second goal and Brazil’s third, capitalising on some lax defending from Paraguay. This came after Savio had notched his side’s second goal of the game.

He even had the chance to complete a hat-trick but chose to support Lucas Paqueta, who redeemed himself by scoring from the spot after an earlier miss.

The victory propelled the nine-time champions to second place behind Colombia, who have won their first two games of the tournament.
