VP Shettima, Governors Meet Over New Minimum Wage, Economy

Vice President Kashim Shettima, state governors, and members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic team are currently meeting to discuss the controversial New Minimum Wage and other national issues.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the meeting is underway at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, holding at the Council Chambers, comes on the heels of the Federal Executive Council’s decision to step down the memo on the planned minimum wage increase.

Recall that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammad Idris, recently explained that President Tinubu needs more time to consult with stakeholders on the issue.

The NEC meeting aims to find common ground on the minimum wage following a similar meeting of the Governors Forum last night.

The NEC membership comprises 36 state governors, the Central Bank Governor, and other co-opted members, chaired by the Vice President.

Attendees at the 141st meeting include Governors Usman Ododo (Kogi), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Lawal Dauda (Zamfara), Charles Soludo (Anambra), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Lucky Ayedatiwa (Ondo), Abdullahi Sule, (Nasarawa), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Caleb Mutfwang, (Plateau), Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Biodun Oyebanji,

The council meets monthly to advise the President on economic matters, including planning and programmes.
