Founder and Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), Ms. Janet Nabla is of the view that women really have no place in politics.
She premises her argument on the fact that the only position reserved for women is the women’s organizer position.
However, all other positions are contested by men who will do everything to ensure that the woman does not win.
“I’m not surprised that a lot of women are running away from politics. The pressure the tension out there is unbearable. Especially if you are a woman and you want to go to the top They will throw stones at you and make sure they pull you down.
The place for women in Ghana’s politics is for you to be under them. Either you are a women organizer, or a Deputy just under them. In the formation of a political party, we have a Chairman who is a man, General Secretary is a man, Organizer a man, Communications Secretary is a man. Only Women’s Organizer is reserved for women and even when taking crucial decisions during NEC meetings you’ll be told you have to go and look for food and water because that is why you were given the position in the first place,” she said.
On why women do not want to put themselves out there for political positions, she indicated that it is because of the discouragement from society indicating that her family kicked against her contesting for the General Secretary position in PNC.
It is very difficult to get to the top in politics if you are a woman. Only the women’s organizer position is reserved for women, and you are only asked to serve drinks during meetings – Janet Nabla, PNP Chairperson#HotIssues pic.twitter.com/19wE4G47Np
