Italian Coach Expresses Interest in Replacing Finidi As Super Eagles Coach, Video

The coaching situation of the Super Eagles of Nigeria continues to generate significant discussions across the country’s footballing circle.

The West African nation, for the second time in 2024, finds itself without a head coach following the departure of Finidi George.

The former Enyimba gaffer stepped down from his role following horrendous FIFA World Cup qualification fixtures.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commenced its search to appoint a fitting replacement for the departing Finidi.

However. amid the federation’s search, a veteran Italian manager has declared interest in coaching the Super Eagles.

Italian manager declares interest in Super Eagles job

In a video shared on social media, veteran Italian manager, Roberto Landi, expressed his interest in the Super Eagles coaching position.

The 68-year-old highlighted his UEFA licenses and extensive knowledge of the African continent as key qualifications for the role.

The former Union St. Gilliose manager also discussed his experience with the Liberian national team and how he notably secured a famous victory against Nigeria.

He emphasised that marquee players like Victor Osimhen would thrive under the leadership of an Italian manager and expressed his eagerness to lead the Nigerian team back to its glory days.

The former Liberia coach joins a growing list of coaches interested in managing the Super Eagles.

The NFF has stated in its communique that it is looking to appoint a foreign tactician for the national team.

NFF to hire Belgian coach

Sports Brief in another report detailed the NFF fancy appointing a Belgian coach for the Super Eagles.

The federation is keen on hiring a foreign manager after the underwhelming tenure of coach Finidi.

Nigeria risks missing out on the 2026 World Cup due to a poor qualification campaign.

The report also highlights that discussions have begun with the managers on the NFF’s shortlist for the Super Eagles role.
