  • Lyle Foster could be on his way out of Burnley after just one season with the Clarets in the English Premier League
  • The South African international has reportedly caught the eye of one of the big clubs in the European top five leagues
  • The Bafana Bafana striker had a frustrating 2023-24 campaign with Burnley after battling with mental health issues mid-season

Bafana Bafana star Lyle Foster has reportedly attracted the attention of a top European team and might leave Burnley this summer.

The former Monaco forward couldn’t help the Clarets stay in the English Premier League as they suffered relegation alongside Sheffield United and Luton Town.

The South African international didn’t have it all rosy in the 2023-24 season, as he suffered mental health issues in the middle of the season after starting the campaign on a good note.

The health issues cost him a place in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, but he’s entirely back in the Hugo Broos’ team and for Burnley, too.

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, there have been interest from clubs in England for Foster to remain in the Premier League while Burnley competes in the Championship.

English clubs are not the only teams interested in the Bafana Bafana star; European giants, Inter Milan have joined the list.

The Italian Serie A champions are in the transfer market seeking a new striker as they look for ways to offload Marko Arnautovic this summer.

Reports also suggest that the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League finalists have yet to make a formal approach or submit a bid for the striker to Burnley.

Mosimane defends Foster and Tau

In a related publication, Sports Brief also reported that South African tactician, Pitso Mosimane defended the likes of Foster and Percy Tau.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach defended the South African duo after they were criticised over their performances for Bafana Bafana.

Mosimane, who coached Tau at Al Ahly, noted how many other prominent players were also criticised.
