Former Ghana defender, Samuel Osei Kuffour believes Vincent Kompany has what it takes to succeed as coach of German giants Bayern Munich.

Kompany was named Thomas Tuchel’s replacement in May after Burnley suffered demotion to the English Champions just a season following their return to the Premier League.

His appointment raised questions with former Bayern Munich players having diverse opinions as he was named coach of the Bavarians.

“When he was coming we had a debate on our legends platform. It was a huge debate and I was in support. Why not give somebody the benefit of the doubt? Because I think he understands. From his team, if he had the quality like Man City, he can do better,” he told Angel TV.

“So if he has the quality to be in this great club and the kind of our quality he has. I think he will cause a big surprise in Europe,” he added.

Asked if he can do it in the UEFA Champions League, Kuffour did not hesitate to answer the affirmative.

“Yes of course. Did we deserve to lose against Real Madrid? Absolutely no. I mean this is how football is but I believe if you have the opportunity to coach a team like Bayer Munich. This is a great thing you have to do to protect your image,” he said.

The legendary Ghanaian defender won several titles with Bayern Munich including the 2001 UEFA Champions League, per Transfermarkt. He later spent time in Italy with AS Roma and was part of Ghana’s team at the World Cup in 2006.

Kuffour rejects Michael Essien’s bankruptcy reports

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayern Munich legend, Samuel Osei Kuffour rejected reports claiming former Ghana teammate Michael Essien is broke.

The former Chelsea midfielder was in the news in Ghana after he was ordered to sell two of his properties by an Accra court’s Deputy sheriff.

The news went viral with some reports suggesting the legendary Ghanaian footballer had gone bankrupt.
