Kylian Mbappe to Play Against Netherlands? Video of French Star Training With Bandaged Nose Emerges

  • Kylian Mbappe has been sighted training with a bandaged nose ahead of France’s Group D encounter vs the Netherlands
  • The 25-year-old picked up a nasty injury during Les Bleus’ uninspiring 1-0 victory against Austria on Monday night
  • Should Mbappe return against the Dutch or later in the course of the tournament, he is expected to wear a protective mask

Kylian Mbappe might make a surprise start in France’s second group game against the Netherlands on Friday, June 21, after breaking his nose in their opening Euro 2024 match against Austria.

The French captain was seen wearing a protective bandage during Wednesday’s training session and initially trained separately from the team.

Mbappe captured training with bandaged nose

In a video circulating on social media, spotted by Sports Brief, Mbappe, with his nose bandaged, appeared healthy as he jogged and casually kicked the ball.

He trained on his own, away from the rest of the squad, before getting involved in shooting drills.

The 25-year-old, who completed a dream transfer to Real Madrid just before the Euros, was substituted against Austria after an aerial collision with defender Kevin Danso’s shoulder on Monday, June 17, per The Independent.

His injury was confirmed at a hospital in Dusseldorf before Mbappe rejoined his teammates in camp.

Will Mbappe play against the Netherlands?

Earlier reports suggested that Mbappe might miss Les Bleus’ upcoming Group D match against the Netherlands on Friday, June 22.

Despite being seen training with a bandaged nose, it’s uncertain whether the new Real Madrid signing will start or substitute in the game against the Oranje.

Meanwhile, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced that Mbappe would receive a protective mask to prevent his condition from deteriorating, Sporting News reports.

Mbappe warned by boxer who broke his nose 15 times

In an earlier publication, Sports Brief reported that a former boxer, who has suffered 15 nose fractures himself, issued a stark warning to Kylian Mbappe after the French star sustained a serious injury during the Euros.

Jero Garcia painted a grim outlook for Mbappe’s Euro prospects, cautioning that the footballer could face significant breathing issues due to his injury.

In an interview, Garcia, who endured numerous nose injuries in his career, explained that fighters with such injuries usually refrain from any contact for “at least three weeks” to allow proper healing.
