Musiala spurs Germany to knockout round

The 21-year-old scored for the second consecutive game, helping Julian Nagelsmann’s side beat Hungary 2-0 on Wednesday night, Eurosport reports.

After earning the man-of-the-match award against Scotland in the tournament’s curtain-raiser, Musiala continued to excel, this time at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.

He opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, despite protests from Hungary’s players who believed a foul should have been called during the build-up to his goal.

Nonetheless, Ilkay Gundogan added a second goal in the 67th minute, ensuring Germany’s smooth path to victory and guaranteeing their progression to the knockout phase, at least as one of the best third-placed teams.

Following the match, praise for Musiala poured in, including from Lothar Matthaus.

The 1990 Ballon d’Or winner believes the Chelsea academy graduate has the potential to become the next Lionel Messi.

“He can be the Messi of the future. He is excellent,” said the former Germany defender, who won the Euros in 1980, as cited by ESPN.
