  • The Nigeria Football Federation has commenced work to recruit a replacement for former manager, Finidi George
  • The ex-Enyimba coach departed his role after underwhelming results against South Africa and the Benin Republic
  • A report has surfaced, stating that the football federation has included another foreign manager in its shortlist

It’s all hands on deck as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and its technical committee look to recruit a new manager for the Super Eagles.

The Nigerian team has been without a head coach since former manager, Finidi George, opted to step down from his role following the disappointing results recorded in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.

The 53-year-old, who was at the helm for barely 47 days, could only muster a draw and a defeat in crucial fixtures against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.

In a bid to rescue what is quickly becoming a disastrous qualification campaign, the NFF has decided to hire a foreign manager to replace Finidi.

While initial reports suggested that the federation was considering two potential candidates, a new update states that the NFF has expanded its search to include another foreign manager in the pool of candidates for the next Super Eagles coach.

NFF adds new manager to Super Eagles shortlist

According to a report by OwnGoalNigeria, the federation has added French manager, Didier Six, to its pool of candidates being considered to replace Finidi.

The 69-year-old is highly experienced in African football, having managed Togo from 2011 to 2014 and Guinea from 2019 to 2021.

However, data from Fotmob shows that coach Six recorded win percentages of 30% with Togo and 45% with Guinea during his respective tenures.

The former Strasboug gaffer joins the existing pool of candidates, which includes Antonio Conceicao and Marc Brys, who are reportedly being considered by the football federation.

NFF eyes former Saudi League coach for Nigeria

Sports Brief also previously reported that the NFF is currently seeking a new Super Eagles coach.

This development follows the resignation of Finidi from his role as manager of the Nigerian team.

Reports indicate that a former Saudi Pro League coach is at the top of the football federation’s list.
