Gordon Ramsay said he did not break any bones or suffer major injuries from the accident.
Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay expressed on June 16 his gratitude for being alive after experiencing a “really bad” cycling accident that occurred ahead of Father’s Day.
“I’d like to share a very important message with you all. You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Ironmans,” Mr. Ramsay said.
“This week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident, and it really shook me. And honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he added, appearing anxious with his hand shaking in the video.
Mr. Ramsay reminded people of the importance of wearing a helmet.
“I’m in pain; it’s been a brutal week, and I’m sort of getting through it, but I cannot tell you the importance of wearing a helmet,” he shared.
“I don’t care how short the journey is, I don’t care the fact that these helmets cost money, but they are crucial. Even with the kids, with a short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet,” he said.
At one point in his video, Mr. Ramsay lifted his chef’s jacket to reveal a large dark purple bruise on his torso.
Mr. Ramsay wrote in his caption that he was “doing ok” and “did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries.” But the chef said he was “a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato.”
He did not elaborate on additional details about the accident but said that he received treatment at the Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London.
The British chef also expressed appreciation for the trauma surgeons, doctors, and nurses who cared for him.
“I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life,” he stated.
Mr. Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland, and raised in England. He owns more than 50 restaurants worldwide, including in Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States.
